President Renedy Singh and Former President Bhaichung Bhutia speaks to the press
President Renedy Singh and former President Bhaichung Bhutia met the press at the Calcutta Sports Journalists Club Kolkata on Sunday 4th of June 2017 before flying off for the all important AFC meeting in Kuala Lumpur on the 7th of June 2017.
The President and former President said the best option is to have a merged league with 18-20 teams so that more players can play at the highest level, however till that happens I-League and ISL should run simultaneously.
“The priority is the players. In the existing structure, there is a problem of unemployment. Many of the players are playing in the two leagues and some are getting to play only in ISL or I-League” said Bhaichung .
President Renedy Singh said there has to be a minimum salary for players playing in the ISL otherwise young players never benefit from playing at the highest level.
The duo signed off by saying that they will be bringing up all the issues at the Indian football stake holders meeting in Kuala Lumpur on the 7th of June 2017. This is the first time that FPAI has been invited for an official meeting by the AIFF and the AFC.
