We caught up with our Vice President before the final of the AFC Cup final in Doha

FPAI :Is qualifying for the AFC Cup final the biggest achievement of your career?

SC: Difficult to say. I played in the AFC Asian Cup too. This final will however rank amongst the top few achievements of my life.

FPAI : You all conceded an early goal. Did you all expect to win by such a margin after that?

SC: We never thought we will lose the match and I am being very honest about this. The body language amongst the players on the field was magnificent. The players were hungry to win the match and they were ready to give it their all. You never know the margin by which you will a match but all is end that ends well.

FPAI : How did you all celebrate after winning?

SC: It was great occasion not only for me and the club but for Indian football as whole. After the match we celebrated with our fans who we consider an important part of the Bengaluru set up. Mr.Parth Jindal was there along with all our corporate partners.

My celebrations are complete without my family and by god’s grace they were there. We went out for a quiet family dinner and came back to my residence late at night.

FPAI : Thoughts on your goals taking Bengaluru to the final.

SC: This has been a team effort. Imagine if Eugene hadn’t scored in the first leg we wouldn’t have been in the final. I got the opportunity to score because of the position which I play in but we are in the final because of the whole team.

FPAI : AFC Cup final now. Your thoughts on that?

SC: As a team we always give our 100% no matter where we play. We always take one game at a time and we will prepare for the final and give it our best shot.

FPAI : You were substituted in the game. Any specific reason for it?

SC: I was suffering from cramps and I spoke to the coach by the touchline. I am a marker as well and it becomes difficult to jump for a header when you have cramps. I had to come off and it was more sensible to send someone out who was more able. There was a point where I couldn’t take it anymore so it was the right decision.

FPAI : Your final thoughts on this AFC Cup campaign?

SC: I am really happy with what we have achieved. We are learning new things every day and this campaign has taught us too. From the day Albert Roca came in he believed in us. His system was different from what we were used to but he maintained that if we believe in ourselves and continue to give our best the results would come in. We are at the final hurdle and will continue to do our best to get the best results.
